Description

Globular cluster M19 in d'Ophiuchus, Meade LX200 ACF 10" + reducer/corrector Optec Lepus x0,62 (effective focal length is about 1700mm). It is one of the most asymetric (flattened) globular clusters known, with a major axis about twice larger than its minor axis. Its angular diameter is estimated to 14' and it is located about 34000 light years away from the solar system (but only 3000 light years from the galaxy center). Its position close to the galactic center means that its light is probably attenuated by gas and dust clouds.
